     That ignorance, pure and simple, would carry a man to death and make him face it in a brave manner is scarcely to be believed by a man of ordinary intelligence, and yet it is so. Look at the dying statement of the assassin, Czolgosz: “I killed the president because he was an enemy of the working people.” That anyone in this day and age would be ignorant enough to believe that the president of the United States controls the destiny of any one class of people, surpasses all understanding, but that, we think, was Czolgosz’s fixed belief. It almost makes us think that the United States commits a crime against itself in not ENFORCING instruction to all children in the rudimentary principles of its government.
