Negro Lynchers, Attention!
It was a negro who struck down Czolgosz, before he could fire a third shot, and, so it may happily prove, saved the president’s life. It was a negro citizen whose respect for the law never wavered in that trying moment and who fought for the law against a mob of white citizens whose loyalty to law and order was too weak to stand the strain. These facts are recommended to the earnest consideration of Southern negro lynchers, though we suppose that the only sentiment it will arouse in the breasts of these gentry is an instinctive feeling that the “blamed nigger ought to have been strung up for striking a white man.”
