Shower of Hen Fruit
Rev. Baker’s Reception by the Egg Committee—Didn’t Like His Memorial Day Talk.
Rev. H. H. Baker, of Chino, formerly of this
city, delivered a [s]hort oration on Memorial day which promises to go down
into the history of that locality. In the course of his remarks Rev. Baker said
that McKinley was not the peer of Abraham Lincoln or possessed of the intellectual
qualifications of James A. Garfield, and when he left the church after the services
he was met with a shower of ancient eggs. Rev. Baker has a married daughter
residing in this city.
Late at night the minister’s effigy wa[s] hung
by the neck high up at the corner of D and Seventh street [sic] in Chino and
la[b]eled “Anarchist—H. H. Baker.”
