One of the great incentives for lynchings is the delay of the courts in bringing those charged with revolting crimes to trial. While it is probably true that no man should be tried when the minds of the people are inflamed this affords no excuse for the dilatory motions and maneuvers which prevent the trying of the accused for from one to two years, as is frequently the case. It is just as bad to wait until the ameliorating effect of time has caused sentiment to change or become indifferent. Czolgoz was promptly tried and executed and there is no good reason why murderers and rape fiends should not be disposed of just as expeditiously in every court in the United States.
