Only three Presidents have been as old as 65 at the time of their inauguration—William Henry Harrison, Taylor and Buchanan—and the last named was the only one of them who lived through his term. The chances are that the country has seen in the Presidential office the last of the men who fought in the Civil War. The present President belongs to a later generation, and it is likely that all his successors will. A new page in the nation’s history has been turned.
