Hanged in Effigy
MARINETTE, Wis., Sept. 19.—An effigy of Czolgosz
was hung upon a lamp post here this morning with the placard, “Czolgosz, the
assassin; let anarchists beware.”
Union memorial service in Scott theater was attended
by 5,000 people and overflowing. Catholic priests and Protestant ministers made
addresses. All stores, factories and saloons are closed all day. An intense
and solemn quietude pervades the city, which has never been equaled before.
Business houses and residences are draped in mourning emblems.
