Martyrdom Missing
Reputable papers have acceded to
the request of the governmental authorities to refrain as far as possible from
exploiting the assassin of the president.
Czolgosz has not been allowed to be the cat’s
paw to rake out the chestnuts for the yellow journals. He has been closely guarded
and promiscuous interviews have been denied.
The martyrdom which the murderer thought he would
enjoy is not forthcoming. He has only his own knowledge of the deed to comfort
him. He has not experienced the bliss of “seeing himself in print” nor is he
aware of how his deed is regarded by vipers like himself.
