To Create a New Treason
Cumberland, Md, September 8.—In
discussing the attempted assassination of President McKinley, Congressman George
A. Peare, of Maryland, said:
“I will offer a bill in the next Congress of the
United States amending the Constitution, so as to make an unsuccessful attempt
upon the life of a President of the nation treason and the penalty death. The
man who strikes at the nation’s head is a public enemy and should be treated
as such.”
