Mobs May Set Fire to Jail
8:35 P. M.—(Bulletin.)—There is
great excitement at police headquarters in Buffalo. The infuriated people are
threatening to burn the jail in which Czolgosz is confined and the police are
fearful of an attack.
Three hundred and fifty extra policemen are on
duty and the force of mounted men has been doubled.
The jail has been roped off for blocks around
and the ranks of the police has been greatly strengthened. Czolgosz is in a
cell in the basement of the jail trembling with fear. Every police officer in
Buffalo is on duty and the authorities are ready to swear in extra men at a
moments [sic] notice.
