Was in Canton
Motorman Domer Sure He Saw Czolgosz.
GOT ON STREET CAR
Conversed with the Motorman—Sure the Man Was the One Who Shot the President.
James Domer, the motorman on car 28, of the Mahoning
line, is certain that Czolgosz, the assassin of the president, rode with him
about three weeks ago. There was a man got on his car at Belden avenue and rode
to the square with him who corresponds to exactly to Czolgosz. He is certain
that he is not mistaken. When the man got on the car he came up to him and said:
“I was just having some fun with that man on the corner. He has a scheme to
flim the president out of some money, by means of a union seal which he has.
He was going to forge an order for some money from the president. I pulled this
from my pocket, showing a detective’s badge, and told him the best thing he
could do was to get out of town, that I belonged to the secret service.”
When they got to the square Domer said he asked
him where the lake was and if there was a base ball game in town that day. Domer
has not seen the fellow since, but as soon as he saw his picture he remembered
him as the same man.
“There was something about him and his actions,”
said Domer, “that impressed me so that I would know him again among a hundred
men. He finally took a lake car and that is the last I saw of him.”
