Will Make an Address
“Big Jim” Parker, Who Held Assassin Czolgosz, Now on a Lecture
Tour.
IN CORRESPONDENCE WITH REV. BELL
Arrangements have been closed to have “Big Jim”
Parker, the colored man, who played such an important part at the shooting of
President McKinley, by seizing Czolgosz after he had fired the fatal shots at
the president, deliver an address in this city on December 29.
Parker is at present on a lecture tour through
the country and recently spoke at Mansfield. He speaks upon the assassination
of the president and his addresses have been received every where [sic]
with much satisfactory comment.
The address will be given in the Y. M. C. A. building.
The proceeds from the lecture will be used to help defray the running expenses
of the church.
Several of the secret service officers who were
with the president when he was shot have been claiming the credit for seizing
the assassin first but Parker claims that the secret officials were slow in
acting and that he grabbed Czolgosz immediately after he did the shooting.
