Pen Portrait of the Assassin

     BUFFALO, Sept. 7.—The names [sic] of the man who shot the President is Leon Frans Czolgosz, pronounced “Zolgoss.”
     He is 5 feet 8½ inches tall, weight 150 pounds, stands erect, and his figure is well made.
     His head is rather attractive, round and large at the apex, tapering down to a narrow, high forehead, which gives to his face a look of unusual intelligence.
     His eyes of steel gray, rather sharp and well shaped. His nose is prominent and tapers to a point.
     His mouth is well curved and lends a pleasant look to the whole features. [sic] When he smiles he shows teeth which, though good, have not been cared for.
     The weakest part of his face is his chin. There is no breadth to the sweep of his jaw from the ear to the chin point.
     The jaw bones are not prominent and trend of the jaw is weak and receding, the chin narrows to a point.
     The eyes of Czolgosz do not show any signs of insanity. He looks at one steadily and intelligently. Czolgosz speaks with a slight suggestion of accent that is slightly noticeable when he attempts to pronounce “r” and “g”. He gives a softness to both letters.
     His voice is low and not unpleasant.
