Parker to Get Medal

Will Be Presented by Well-Known Local Colored Men

James F. Parker, the colored man who knocked Leon Czolgosz down after h[e] had shot President McKinley, is to be presented with a gold medal by the Murray Senate, a colored organization of this city.
The Senate which is composed of well-known colored men, Stansbury Murray being at its head, held a meeting on Tuesday evening, when Parker’s act was discussed and he was commended for his effort to save the life of the President.
One of the members stated that he had [s]een and talked with Parker since the shooting and he found him to be a quiet, unassuming man.
The decision to present Parker with a gold medal was unanimous and the project was enthusiastically endorsed. A committee was appointed to procure the medal and make arrangements for its presentation. An invitation will be extended to Parker, with the expectation of having him come here to re[c]eive the gift, and should he come here he will be welcomed. The colored people will hold a demonstration in his honor[.] The committee is to make its report next Monday evening.
