President Assassinated
The most horrible tragedy since the assassination
of President James A. Garfield occurred yesterday at Buffalo, N. Y., in the
assassination of President McKinley by a Polish anarchist or crank.
The assassin fired two shots, both taking effect
in the stomach of the President. As soon as the shots were fired the President
bowed to a detective and then walked quietly to a chair and sat down with no
apparent show of pain.
The assasin [sic] fled, but was soon captured.
He gives his name as Fred Neiman, 28 years of age and a Pole by descent. He
is 5 feet, 9 inches, weighs 160 lbs., hair brown, eyes blue, smooth face, regular
features, prominent nose. He claims Cleveland, Chicago and Detroit as his home.
The latest news states that the prospects for
the President’s recovery are good.
