Answer to the “Old Man” on European Nations
AS regards to the lives of Polish and other foreign nations [sic] of United States, I wish to differ with the “Old Man.” In the first place, we all know from American history that the United States was discovered by a foreign man, whom we all know was Christopher Columbus, and consequently we should give all respect to the foreign nations, and not insult them for the conduct of a few people. Now, pertaining especially to the Polish people, we deeply deplore the sad loss of our President a few years ago, but we must say that the conduct of such a man should not be placed or compared with the whole Polish nation. This man Czolgosz, who shot and killed our President, was more of an American than a Pole, as he was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He was educated there in the American public schools, and was not taught or educated in Polish Catholic schools of this country to do such a dastardly act. He also did not believe in any religion, and said that there was no such a thing as a God. I hope this explanation will bring this “Old Man” to his sensible thoughts, in order that he may write up his subjects more intelligently.
