Parent Hears the News
Cleveland, Ohio (Special).—The father of Leon Czolgosz, two of the assassin’s brothers and several former neighbors gathered in a telegraph office here to receive the word that the man who shot the late President McKinley had paid the penalty of his crime. When the parent was told that his son was dead his fingers twitched nervously for a minute or so, a suspicion of a tear came into his dark eye and he made a reply in Polish to a friend, who acted as interpreter. The old man’s statement was to the effect that, inasmuch as it had to be, it was better that it is all over.
