Dr. N. J. Senn on M’Kinley’s Hurts
Says Such Wounds Are Dangerous but Not Necessarily Fatal.
Dr. N. J. Senn, in discussing the reported condition
of the president, said: “I know three of the physicians reported in the Daily
News as in attendance on the president. Those I know are Drs. Mynter, Mann and
Lee. They are good men. Under their care he will have every chance for recovery
that there is under the circumstances. Of course I cannot say what the probabilities
of recovery may be, not knowing the nature of the wounds except in a general
way.
“The abdominal wound is the more dangerous of
the two. Recoveries are entirely possible from wounds in the abdomen and breast.
Of course I have extracted many bullets from the chest and have had many patients
recover from them. The wounds, while extremely dangerous, need not be regarded
as certainly fatal. Surgeons in all parts of the world will await with deep
concern the outcome of this struggle with possible fatality, and earnestly hope
that a victory may be accomplished on the momentous occasion.”
