Bullets Fired by Czolgosz

Cost Erie County $300 for Analysis Made by Chemists.

     BUFFALO, Nov. 27.—It cost the county of Erie $300 to find out that the bullets which were used by Czolgosz when he fired the fatal shots at President McKinley were not poisoned, according to orders made by Justice Hooker, in the Criminal Term of the Supreme Court this morning.
     Dr. Herbert M. Hill, Buffalo’s city chemist, was allowed $150 for making a chemical analysis of the bullets, and Dr. Herman G. Matzinger, who also assisted at the President’s autopsy, was allowed a similar sum for making a bacteriological examination of the leaden pellets.
     The allowance to Dr. Matzinger, of course, has nothing to do with the sum which he may receive as one of the doctors who performed the autopsy. Both physicians asked for more than was allowed, but the amount of their demand is not made public. Justice Hooker considers that the allowances he made are ample.
