McKinley assassination (public response: criticism); Hearst newspapers (role in the assassination); William Randolph Hearst; lawlessness (mob rule); the press (criticism).
Named persons
William Randolph Hearst.

The attempt to place the blame for the cold blooded shooting of the President upon Mr. Hearst, is in our judgment cowardly. The mob spirit has been encouraged by the entire white press of America. Read the head lines [sic] describing mob murders and see for yourself. We have said all along that it would lead to a national calamity.
