THE pronunciation of the name of the man who attempted to assassinate President McKinley, Leon Czolgosz, has puzzled most of us. In fact the name seems utterly unpronounceable in English. Henry Silf, the Salida architect, says that he is familiar with the name, and that as nearly as it can be represented in English, it is pronounced “Zol-gotz,” with the accent on the first syllable. Very easy when you know how.
