Will Not See Czolgosz Die
United States Will Not Send a Witness to Execution of President McKinley’s Assassin.
Albany, N. Y., Oct. 19.—Secretary of State Hay,
in a letter to State Superintendent of State Prisons Collins, declines the invitation
of the latter to designate an official representative of the government to be
present at the electrocution of Czolgosz, the murderer of President McKinley.
The letter of Secretary Hay is as follows:
“To Cornelius V. Collins, Esq., Superintendent
of State Prisons, Albany, N. Y.:
“My Dear Sir: I have received your letter of Oct.
10, and, while thanking you for your courtesy, it is not considered expedient
to have a representative of the government present on the occasion you refer
to.
